dotProject Installation

dotProject is packaged with an installation wizard that walks you through the basic setup process.

To install dotproject, open a browser, and in its address bar type in the URL that you have entered in HOSTS file as described in lesson 4 .

When dotProject runs for the first time a PHP config file has not yet been created, dotProject will alert the user that the PHP config file has not been created as shown in Diagram 1.

dotProject will automatically create the config file, for this you have to follow the following steps as shown in Diagram 2 – 4.

The Check for Requirements screen will be displayed. It should look similar to the one displayed overleaf. Notice that under Database Connectors there are many red 'X's with the phrase “Not available”.
It is a very long screen, and shows many optional configurations.

If any of the mandatory requirements for dotProject are not met, its installation will not be successful.

Click Start Installation when ready.

Enter the Host name, Database name, Database User name and Password and click on “install db and write cfg” as shown in Diagram 3.

Ensure that the drop existing database checkbox is checked if you have an old dotProject database that already exists. Ensure that the database name entered matches the one created in MySQL.

Your database should be successfully created and the PHP config file created. A green success message “Database successfully setup” and “Config file written successfully” will be displayed.

Click on “Login and Configure the dotProject System Environment” link as shown in Diagram 4.

NOTE: If the database setup was not successful, a red failure message will be displayed. Click the back button and double-check that you entered the database information correctly.

After successfully creating the database, a Login Screen will be showed as shown in Diagram 5.

The dotProject installation scripts create a default administrator username and password for you.

When you log on to dotProject for the very first time, the Username is “admin” and Password is “passwd” as shown in Diagram 5.

It is recommended that these default values be changed as soon as possible for security reasons.

After Logging on, the System Configuration screen will be displayed, as shown in Diagram 6. Click on the “Save” button on the right hand side of the page to continue with the dotProject, as shown in Diagram 7.

Change password

It is recommended that the password for the admin user be changed immediately.

To change the Admin password click on the “User Admin” link on the menu bar on top of the screen as shown in Diagram 8 and the “User Management” interface will be displayed as shown in Diagram 9.

Click on edit button on the left hand side of tab as shown in Diagram 9 and the User “admin” will become editable.

Change the password of the user to “@dminpass” {or any other password which you want} and then click on “Submit” as shown in Diagram 10.

After submitting this new information, click on “Logout” and then log in again with the new password.
