WordPress Importer Plugin – Direct Installation

To setup the WordPress importer plugin on a WordPress driven Blog, login to WordPress as administrator, by simply entering the url_of_your_website/wp-admin in your Browser. Enter the appropriate username and password {which was provided while installing Wordpress} and then click on Log In as shown in Diagram 1.

After logging in as WordPress Admin, a Dashboard page opens as shown in Diagram 2.

The Dashboard provides access to different WordPress functions and features.

In the left menu, locate the link Tools. Click on Tools, from the drop down menu that appears click on Import as shown in Diagram 3.

Install the WordPress importer by clicking on WordPress as shown in Diagram 4.

Install Importer lightbox is displayed as shown in Diagram 5.

Click Install Now in order to upload the file and install it into the WordPress framework as shown in Diagram 5.

A few seconds after clicking Install Now you should see the - Successfully installed the plugin - message as shown in Diagram 6.

Next activate the Importer Plugin for your WordPress blog,

Activate and run the plugin by clicking - Activate Plugin & Run Importer - as shown in Diagram 6.

Congratulations!! You have successfully installed and activated WordPress Importer plugin in your WordPress CMS as shown in Diagram 7.

Now, you can upload your WordPress eXtended RSS ( WXR ) file and it will import posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories and tags into the site.
