WordPress has the built-in functionality of exporting its content i.e. posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags – ( NOT – images and other uploads like PDFs ) of WordPress in the form of an xml file. This export process is describes in detail in our tutorial - Export WordPress Content - on this website.
The WordPress Importer plugin imports posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, tags and more from the WordPress export file identified above.
The following tutorial will teach you how you download the WordPress Importer plugin. You can also directly install the WordPress Importer plugin through WordPress’s inbuilt functionality.

Open a Browser window and enter http://www.google.com in the address bar and hit GO.
In the Google search windows that opens search for WordPress importer plugin as shown in Diagram 1.

In the Search results window Click on the wordpress.org link http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-importer/ as shown in Diagram 2.

When wordpress.org opens in the Browser window, click on Download Version 0.X on the right hand side, in order to download the WordPress Importer Plugin to your local computer as shown in Diagram 3.

Select the Save File radio button, and save the zip file to your hard disk. Click OK, as shown in Diagram 4.

On click of OK, a file browser will open up. Navigate to an appropriate folder on your hard disk and save the wordpress-importer.0.3.zip to your local computer, eg: “X:\ wordpressimporter\” Here X represents an appropriate drive letter on your computer, as shown in Diagram 5. The zip file would be successfully downloaded and saved in this folder.
