Updating Admin Profile In Joomla 1.6

For updating an administrator profile for Joomla1.6, you have to first login through the administrative panel of joomla by simply entering the url_of_your_website/administrator in your browser.
Enter the username, password and leave the Language to Default, click on Login as shown in Diagram 1.

After logging in to the backend, a control panel page opens as shown in Diagram 2.

The Control Panel provides access to many default Joomla! functions and features. From the Control Panel, you can create and manage articles and categories. Other features available in the Control Panel are the media, menu, language, and user managers.

Joomla1.6 has introduced a new feature for updating an admin profile in just one click. In order to access this feature, navigate to Site -> My Profile as shown in Diagram 3.

My Profile page is displayed as shown in Diagram 4.

The following is the description for the various options provided.

My Profile Details:
• Name: The (full) name of the user.
• Login Name: The user name that will be entered during login.
• Password: The password that will be entered during login.
• Confirm Password: The same password again (to make sure the password is entered correctly).
• Email: Admin’s Email address.
• Registration Date: The date on which Admin was registered.
• Last Visit Date: The date on which Admin had last logged into the site.
• ID: This is a unique identification number assigned automatically by Joomla.

Basic Settings:
• Backend Template Style: Select the template style for the Administrator Backend interface. This will only affect this User.
• Back-end Language: Select the Language for the Administrator Backend interface. This will only affect this User.
• Front-end Language: Select the Language for the frontend interface. This will only affect this User.
• Editor: The editor to use for this user.
• Help Site: Set the help site of the user. Default is the Help Server set in the Global Configuration.
• Time Zone: Set the time zone of the user. Default is the Time Zone set in the Global Configuration.

NOTE:
  • Name, Login Name, and Email are required.
  • If the basic default settings are not changed, then it will use the default settings from the Global Configuration.

Update the profile details as shown in Diagram 5.

In our case, the name of the super user is changed to Ivan and Login Name to ivanbayross.

NOTE: On updating the login name, this will change the Joomla backend administrator’s login username.
Similarly on updating the password, will update the Joomla backend administrator’s login password.

Click on Save and Close as shown in Diagram 5, in order to save the settings and close the edit screen.
You can either click on Save, in order to save the settings and stay on the editable screen.

On clicking the Save & Close, “Item successfully saved “message is displayed as shown in Diagram 6.

Now you can access the backend of Joomla using new username / password.
