The Joomla 1.5 User manager is where you can control all Joomla users, administrators as well as the registered users.
Access the User Manager by clicking on the User Manager icon in the Control Panel, or by clicking on 'User Manager' in the 'Site' menu in the back-end of your Joomla installation as shown in Diagram 1.

You will see a list of users with specific details of Name, Username, Group, E-Mail and so on. You can also edit, create and delete users through User manager.
In order to create a new user, click on the New icon at the top right hand corner as shown in Diagram 2.

You will see different fields where you can fill information of the user as shown in Diagram 3.
Name: You have to enter the real name of the user.
Username: You have to enter the username of the user. When a user wants to log in, the user has to fill in this username to gain access to different features of your website.
E-mail: The email address of the user will be entered here.
New Password: You have to fill in a (new) password. Although this field is not required, the user will not be able to log in if no password is set.
Verify Password: You have to fill in an identical password as the password field above. This field is required when you filled in the new password field.
Group: You have to select a group for your user. The following Groups are available:
- Registered User: They are the normal visitors who register at the site and can view Menu Items that have Access Level of Registered but cannot edit or submit articles.
- Author: They can submit new articles for approval in the front end only but cannot edit existing articles. A Publisher or higher must approve.
- Editor: They can submit new articles or edit existing articles from the front end only. A Publisher or higher must approve.
- Publisher: They can submit, edit, or publish articles from the front end only.
- Manager, Administrator and Super Administrator: They can do all of the above functionality as well as they can log into the back end with increasing rights.
Block User: If set to ‘Yes’, your user will be blocked, and all access to the website's features will be prevented.
Receive System E-mails: Set this to ‘Yes’ if you want your user to receive automatic e-mail messages. The messages can vary from notifications to important notices.
- Additionally, the following user parameters can be set:
Back-end language: You can select the back-end language of the user. All installed languages for the back-end will be displayed in the drop-down box.
Front-end Language: You can select the front-end language of the user. All installed languages for the front-end will be displayed in the drop-down box.
User Editor: You can select the front-end and back-end editor of the user. All installed editors will be displayed in the drop-down box. Joomla 1.5 comes with TinyMCE already installed as its editor. Joomla permits other editors to be installed as plugins.
Help Site: You can set the help site URL for users. Default is the Help Server set in the Global Configuration.
Time Zone: You can set the time zone for users. Default is the Time Zone set in the Global Configuration.
Contact information: If you linked a contact to this user, the contact information will be displayed.
Note: Name, Username and e-mail address are required fields while creating a user.
If you did not fill in a particular language, editor, help site and time zone, the default settings from the Global Configuration, Language Manager and Template Manager will be used.
To save the created user click on the Save icon at the top-right hand corner.

A successful creation of user is displayed in the message as shown in Diagram 4.

In order to edit the existing user, you have to select the name of the user or select the user and click on the Edit icon as shown in Diagram 5.

You can edit the user entries and click on Save icon at the top-right hand corner as shown in Diagram 6.

The user will be successfully saved with all edited detail as shown in Diagram7.

In order to delete an existing user select the check-box in front of the user Name and click on the Delete icon at the top-right hand corner as shown in Diagram8.

The user would be successfully removed from the User Manager.
