MySQL Installation

Navigate to the folder in which the MySQL (full product) file has been saved. In our case this was:
{drive letter}:\downloads\MySQL.

Double Click the MySQL installer to start the installation process and begin to configure the MySQL installer as shown in diagram 1.

Once the MySQL installer configuration is completed, the installer will gather information it requires to install MySQL on the computer successful as shown in diagram 2.

Just prior installation commencing the MySQL splash screen will be displayed as shown in diagram 3. Then the MySQL installation work flow commences.

The License Agreement screen is displayed. Click the I accept the license terms check box On. When done, Next will activate as shown in diagram 4. Click Next.

Next the Choosing A Setup Type screen is displayed. Select the radio button Custom as we only want to install the MySQL Community RDBMS engine on the computer as shown in diagram 5.

From the Select Products and Features screen, select the MySQL products that you want installed from the Available Products section. Then click the Right pointing arrow to mover the selected products to the Products/Features To Be Installed section.

NOTE: We selected only the following MySQL Products and Features for installation.
MySQL Server
MySQL Notifier
Connector ODBC (Not really necessary)
As shown in diagram 6.

Once you are satisfied that you’ve selected all the MySQL products and features you want installed on your computer Click Next. The MySQL installer screen is displayed, You are ready to start you’re the installation of MySQL RDBMS on your local computer.

Click Execute to commence the installation of MySQL as shown in diagram 7.

The installation of MySQL commences and as each Product / Service you’ve chosen is installed successfully a little green and white tick appears on the left hand side of its name indicating successful installation as shown in diagram 8.

MySQL server installation is complete.

Click Next, to display the MySQL server configuration screen as shown in diagram 9.

Click Next to begin the configuration of the MySQL RDBMS engine installed on your computer.

On Click of Next the MySQL Type and Networking screen is displayed as shown in diagram 10.

Leave everthing as it is in this screen and Click Next.

The Accounts and Roles screen will be displayed as shown in diagram 11.

Add the MySQL Root Password of your choice, twice and click Next. The Windows service screen will be displayed as shown in diagram 12.

This ensures that MySQL is installed as a Windows service and is setup o run automatically when Windows is started. Click Next. The MySQL Advanced Options screen is displayed as shown in diagram 13.

NOTE: We suggest switching Off all the log creation check boxes to save on hard disk space as shown in diagram 13, but this is really your decision to make.

Click Next. The Apply Server Configuration screen will be displayed as shown in diagram 14. Click Execute.

The MySQL Server confguration steps start being applied as shown in diagram 15.

When all the MySQL Server configuration steps are completed successfully the Execute button will change to Finish.  Click Finish as shown in diagram 16.

On Click of Finish the Product Configuration screen will be displayed as shown in diagram 17.

Click Next.  This MySQL Installation Complete screen will be displayed as shown in diagram 18. You can copy the Installation log file to the Clipboard and then save it to your hard disk for you ro read through if you want to.

Click Finish to complete the installation of MySQL Community server on your computer as shown in diagram 18.

You have successfully installed MySQL Community server to your local computer as a Windows service that will run each time Windows is loaded into memory.

Testing MySQL Community Server

When MySQL has been installed and configured.

Run a Command window as administrator.

At the Command Prompt enter the following:

mysql –uroot –p{enter the password here used at MySQL installation time}

NOTE: Do not use the {brackets} please

NOTE: There must be no space between the –uroot and -ppassword

NOTE: Do not forget the space between –uroot and -ppassword

The Command Prompt immediately changes to mysql

This indicates that that MySQL, character based client, has loaded into memory and is awaiting your command as shown in diagram 19.
