Creating and Saving a Writer Document

Follow the steps shown in Diagram 1 to create a new Writer document.

1. Click on the File.
2. Select New from the drop down menu.
3. From its sub menu select Text Document.

A new blank text document is displayed in the VDU

When text is typed into a document, it is held in the memory of the computer. This is transitory. In order to permanently preserve the document for future use, the document’s content held in memory needs to be saved on the Hard disk.

In order to save the Writer document:

1. Select File ->Save As - as shown in Diagram 2.
2. A dialog box appears
3. Enter the name for the file to be saved to hard disk
4. Click on Save as shown in Diagram 3.

In order to open an existing document does the following:

1. Select File-> Open as shown in Diagram 4.
2. A dialog box is displayed
3. Select an appropriate drive or folder and double click on it to enter the folder
4. Select the file that must be opened from the list of file names displayed there
5. Click on Open as shown in Diagram 5.
