Wordpress 3.0.1 Installation

Details on how and where to download the latest stable version of Wordpress is explained in our tutorial Wordpress Download .

If you choose to use a version of WordPress earlier that 3.X details on how to install and configure this version is explained in our tutorial Prior Wordpress Installation.

Details on how to create a virtual host under Apache Web server please refer our tutorial Creating a Wordpress Virtual Domain under Apache.

Details on how to create a database and user for WordPress please refer to our tutorial Creating The MySQL Database And User For Your Wordpress Installation.

Once you can create a virtual domain under Apache web server and a MySQL database for WordPress, you are ready to install the latest stable version of Wordpress – 3.0.1.

Download the WordPress zip file to G:/public_html/wordpress folder and unzip it there as shown in Diagram 1.

NOTE: G:/public_html/wordpress is a virtual domain controlled by Apache Web server on your local computer.

Details of making an entry in your HOST file on your computer so that you can install WordPress locally is given in our tutorial Creating a Wordpress Virtual Domain under Apache.

Next - open a Browser and type www.localwordpress.com in its address bar. www.localwordpress.com is the domain name entry made in our HOSTS file. Then and hit GO or press the Enter key.

This will automatically invoke index.php within the wordpress folder. When index.php executes, the Wordpress installation process is started.

If the you have not created a configuration file, WordPress will prompt you to first create a Configuration file.

Click on Create a Configuration file button as shown in Diagram 2.

A new page opens which tells the user that before proceeding you need to know the WordPress Database Name, Username and Password created by earlier as shown in diagram 3.

Once you have noted all the details down on a piece of paper click on the Lets Go button as shown in Diagram 3.

The database connection details page opens. Fill in all the details as shown in Diagram 4.

After submitting the database connection details click onto the button Run the install which completes the installation of WordPress as shown in Diagram 5.

A new page opens in your Browser as shown in Diagram 6.

Here you must enter your Blog Title and Your E-mail ID.

You can also enter a desired Administrator username and password on this page as shown in Diagram 6.

The Username is initially set to admin. You may leave the username as admin or you can change the username here. We strongly recommend that you change the Username from admin to something else for security purposes.

If the password field is left blank, a password will be generated automatically during the Wordpress installation.

Click onto the button Install WordPress as shown in Diagram 6.

WordPress is finally installed on your system.

A new page is displayed in your Browser, which displays the username and password of the WordPress admin section as shown in Diagram 7.

Click onto the button Log In as shown in Diagram 6.

NOTE: In this specific case, we kept the username as admin. Hence admin is displayed as username. Nothing will be displayed as password.

Enter the appropriate username and password which was provided during installation process by you as shown in Diagram 8. This is assuming that you changed admin to something else at installation time.

Click onto the button Log In as shown in Diagram 8.

The Website Administrator Dashboard is displayed as shown in Diagram 9. The Administrator dashboard provides the various features and functionality of WordPress Blog / CMS.

Open a browser window and type www.localwordpress.com in the address bar and you will see your default Wordpress template as shown in Diagram 10.

You have successfully completed the installation of WordPress 3.X on your lap top or desktop.
